As we trudge toward winter with spring break not quite in sight on the horizon, I always need a little pit stop of fun to get me through.
Valentine’s Day offers the perfect excuse to spice up our mantles with some pink and red hues. To break out the sprinkles for a treat-making extravaganza. To make a heart-shaped pizza and have a family dance party. And to remind us that the very best gifts aren’t the most costly, but the thoughtful ones that come from the heart.
This Valentine’s Day, I thought it would be fun to put together some of my favorite local gift ideas that will last your sweetheart longer than a dozen roses. So come along with me as I share some of my favorite things from my part of the KC metro. These are my Lee’s Summit Loves!
Of course, my first stop must involve caffeine.
I met my good friend, Cassie, at Love, Coffee to take some photos showing off our Valentine’s tees. (Thank you, Local T!) Love, Coffee, which opened in October, 2017, has quickly become one of my favorites for the fact that they serve local artisan-roasted Messenger coffee. I sometimes struggle with drinking black coffee in January while doing Whole30, but Love’s house blend is perfect without any additions. I’ll be back in February for their resolution latte, an almond milk latte with a hint of cinnamon and one of their gluten-free peanut butter energy balls. And try their raspberry white chocolate mocha if you want to indulge!
Since 2016, Jen and Doug, Local T owners, have produced one-of-a-kind designs and printed them on buttery-soft shirts for every season of life. As a mama, I live in my tees, ripped jeans and Converse. This buffalo plaid KC tee from Local T is going to be my February go-to! Also check out their super cute ball caps that pair fancy (velvet!) with casual style. Perfect for the days I want to look cute and more put together yet the dry shampoo isn’t cutting it.
While at Very Violet, I also picked out some of my favorite home decor items. I may have brought home this oblong cutting board. I’m a sucker for the combo of rustic materials and clean lines!
And this Wake, Pray, Slay sign is right up my alley.
Not to mention all the fun little Valentines items. These oversize scrabble tiles are super cute!
Just down the street at KD’s Books are the items that my kids are eyeing for Valentine’s Day. Yes, their infatuation with Beanie Boos is still going strong. If my daughter gets her wish, Juliet the penguin will be hers.
Husbands, if you buy your wives chocolates for Valentines’ Day, know this very important thing: Buy them at A Thyme for Everything. It’s your local home for Christopher Elbow gourmet confections! So get there now. Chocolates are sold individually for $2.50 and Valentine’s boxes range in price up to $55. The flavors are dreamy-sounding: lemon ginger caramel, fig, raspberry with dark chocolate bergamot ganache just to name a few.
Right next door is by far one of our favorite date-night hang-outs. Red Door Wine Store has bottles in every price range and great happy hour specials on glasses and wine flights. But right now, it’s their featured beer on tap that’s stealing my heart. Southern Tier Brewing Company’s Choklat is an imperial stout chocolate dessert beer that I’ll gladly toast to the month of love. A pour is $3.50 on happy hour, $5 regular priced and or $20 for a four-pack to take home with you.
Cheers to February, friends! Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? What would be your favorite gift to give or receive?
